My mother has been married to my stepdad for 4 years now. They met when I was 14, and my parents divorced when I was 5. I have always had a generally good relationship with stepdad (SD) as he has seemingly respected my boundaries and been kind. I have autism and some past experiences, so I am looking for advice or whether this is an issue, or if I am letting my bias get in the way of a clearer picture. Lately my parents have been fighting a lot, like so much. I’m a part time college student but I love with them as I’m physically disabled and I can’t drive. About a week ago, I was looking at a calendar in the kitchen and he stood next to me, grabbed my shoulder, and pulled my body against his, think shoulder buddies in school. It made me very uncomfortable and I asked him to stop, before I went upstairs and hid in my bedroom. Whenever I see him in the house, he’s been making a point to stand in my way so I have to shuffle next to him. For example, we have a kitchen with a short walkway leading to the sink, he will stand in front of the counter, blocking half the walkway, so I have to shuffle past him which usually results in my body touching his accidentally. My final uncomfortable moment came yesterday, when I fell down the stairs. I have a large scar on my chest from surgery, going between my breasts and down to my abdomen, it holds me together. I was worried about my scarring, so I told my parents I had called my doctor in order to make sure my sternum and my scar tissue was okay. I’m just gonna quote what he said “maybe if your chest splits open, your boobs will fall down more”. I was SAed as a child by my mom’s ex boyfriend, and I know those experiences alongside my autism hold a serious weight in my critical and emotional choices. I don’t know if what he did was just normal dad behavior, as I don’t have a dad. When I told him that was disgusting and tried to walk away, he followed me up the stairs and grabbed my arm apologizing. Whenever I finally just said “okay” he let go and I ran into my bedroom. I know I’m a grown woman and I can protect myself, but I also don’t want to ruin my relationship with SD if he’s just being normal. I don’t really want to leave my room anymore and I don’t feel comfortable being alone with him, even though he hasn’t really done anything wrong. I don’t want to walk in front of him because I feel like I’m being stared at, but he always holds the door and offers to let me go up the steps first. Yesterday while I was at my boyfriend’s house I found out he went into my bedroom to “look for dishes” but I had like maybe 4 plates in there and we have over 20. Is he just making stupid jokes as a dad or is this weird behavior? What can I do to help ease my feelings or fix the situation and how do I handle this subject and anxiety around my parents? submitted by /u/BackElectronic7219 to r/Advice [link] [comments]
