I was on a nostalgia trip a few weeks ago and thought it'd be cool to experience the old MSN days again, so I decided to build this fun app to experience the thrill of being 16 again. It's called CMSN. It puts Claude Code inside an early-2000s Messenger chat window. Instead of a plain terminal, you get: A contact list. Each chat with Claude is a "contact", with a green, yellow or offline status depending on whether it's working, idle or stopped. Nudges. The sounds. The new-message sound is very nostalgic! All 60 of Messenger 7's emoticons. Claude gets the matching emoji A "Type a personal message" line under your name "Chris says:" headings above each message Display pictures from the classic list A fake "screen resolution" slider from 640×480 to 1600×1200 Underneath, it's your normal Claude CLI in a real terminal pane, so everything still works: slash commands, models, multiple accounts and resuming old conversations. I built it in Swift with SwiftTerm for the terminal. The hardest part was getting the XP-era look right on modern macOS without it looking like a cheap skin. It's $4.99 one-time (no subscription) at cmsn.app and it needs macOS 26 and Claude Code installed. It isn't affiliated with Microsoft or Anthropic. Feedback welcome, and tell me what you'd want added. I'm thinking about an update to add your now playing song 🤔 submitted by /u/Heffertron [link] [comments]
