I got tired of paying for AI tools, so I built a list of free swaps.

Wait 5 sec.

I was paying for several AI subscriptions and realized most had free or open-source alternatives that were good enough for what I actually do. So I started keeping track, and it turned into a small site. Some of the swaps I use: Coding: Continue, an open-source assistant that runs in VS Code, instead of paying for Copilot Transcription: Whisper, an open-source speech-to-text model you can run yourself, instead of Otter Images: FLUX as an alternative to Midjourney Local chat: Ollama to run models on your own machine Each guide is honest about what the free version can't do, so you can decide whether it's enough for you. It's at freeaiswap.com/guides. I'd love feedback on which tools I'm missing or what's wrong. submitted by /u/BlockheadCB [link] [comments]
