I’m a new RN and have only been at my current inpatient observation job for a few weeks. I’m doing well clinically, but I have a lot of anxiety before shifts and 12-hour days leave me completely drained. I’ve never really loved inpatient nursing, even during school clinicals, but I’m worried I’m giving up on it too quickly. Part of me feels like I should stay longer, get more comfortable, and give myself a real chance before deciding it isn’t for me. At the same time, I was just offered an RN position at the outpatient women’s health clinic where I worked as an MA for 3 years. I already know I like the environment and specialty, and I think it would fit me much better. My biggest struggle is feeling like I’m “quitting” bedside and wondering if I’ll regret not sticking it out longer for the experience. I’m not incredibly worried about the pay cut, it does suck but I’m in a good place financially. Has anyone else left bedside very early and felt guilty about it? Did you regret it, or did you realize it was just the wrong fit? Edit to add: I am in my 30s if that changes anyone’s advice. As in I don’t have as much time as a 20yo to build my career and thinking I might want to go right into what interests me most and go from there!! My long term goal is to be a mom and have good work life balance too submitted by /u/kat10111 [link] [comments]
