I built a desktop app that turns a PDF into a flipbook you own as a single HTML file (no cloud, no account). Looking for honest feedback

Wait 5 sec.

Hi all, I'm Jeremy. I run a small web studio in Malta, and on the side I've been building Flippique, a desktop app for Windows and Mac that turns a PDF (or a folder of images) into a page-turning flipbook. Why I built it: I first built it for Uriland Studio (urilandstudio.com) to use online. Then I realised it could be useful to a lot more people as standalone software. What bugged me about the tools I looked at is that most of them host your book on their platform, and you pay more each year to take their name or ads off it. I wanted the opposite: you get a file, and it's yours. How it works: Drop in a PDF. Every page becomes a page of the book, in order. Save it. The output is one HTML file. Email it, put it on a USB stick, or upload it to your own website. Readers open it in any modern browser, even offline. They need no account and see no ads. The app runs on your computer, so your pages are never uploaded anywhere. It works offline; it needs internet only once, to register your licence key. The books are HTML files that open offline in any browser and connect to nothing. What it doesn't do (yet), so you don't waste your time: Pages are turned into images, so text isn't searchable or selectable, and links in your PDF stop working. No reader analytics or lead forms. Hosted tools like Heyzine and Flipsnack have these. An iPhone won't open an .html file sent as an email attachment. The same book works fine from a web link (your own site or a free host). Pricing (euros, plus VAT): Free: 3 books a month, up to 24 pages each, with a Flippique mark on the pages and loading screen. Solo: €49/yr, no mark. Pro: €99/yr, unlimited books and pages plus your own logo on the loading screen. Lifetime licence: €199. If you cancel a paid plan, the books you've already made keep working, because they're your files. What I'd love feedback on: Is the "own the file, no hosting" angle clear from the site, or does it sound like just another flipbook tool? Of the gaps above, which would stop you from using it? Searchable text and links are top of my list. Anything confusing in the free vs paid split? https://www.flippique.com Thanks for reading. I'll be around to answer questions. submitted by /u/Middle-Jello9731 [link] [comments]
