Revanth ‘pulls up’ MLAs over lack of interest in graduate MLC polls - The HinduPublished - October 13, 2026 09:38 pm IST - HYDERABADChief Minister A Revanth Reddy along with Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and other INDIA block leaders in New Delhi on Tuesday.Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, who was busy with the Congress leadership on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in New Delhi on Tuesday, took out time to review the Graduates MLC preparations along with TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud, Ministers and MLAs - who were also in the national capital.Mr. Reddy revealed that the Congress party’s protests on SIR protests had caught the nation’s eye, including the educated section in Telangana, who realised the deliberate deletion of votes by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and its danger to democracy.The educated section is looking for an opportunity to teach the ‘BJP/BRS’ combine a lesson, but the Congress party has to step the enrolment process and mobilisation, he told the party leaders.He however, reportedly expressed displeasure over the lack of interest shown by some MLAs in several districts. He stressed that voter enrolment was crucial to the party’s prospects and asked the MLAs and MLCs to treat the process as a priority rather than leave it entirely to the party organisation.The renewed focus comes against the backdrop of the Congress’s inability to translate its victory in the 2023 Assembly elections into electoral success in the graduate constituency contest. The party suffered a setback in the Karimnagar-Medak-Adilabad-Nizamabad Graduates’ constituency in February 2025, when BJP candidate Anji Reddy won the election.The upcoming elections in the Mahabubnagar-Rangareddy-Hyderabad and Nalgonda-Warangal-Khammam Graduate constituencies have consequently assumed significance for the ruling party. The Congress has named Sama Rammohan Reddy for the former constituency and Ramreddy Sarvotham Reddy for the latter.For Mr. Revanth Reddy, the elections are important not only for the two Legislative Council seats but also for the political narrative surrounding his government.A favourable outcome would help the Congress demonstrate that it retains support among educated voters as Mr Reddy had been arguing that he had filled up more than 60,000 government jobs within two years, as against the 10-year rule of the BRS government.Published - October 13, 2026 09:38 pm ISTSign in to unlock member-only benefits!Access 10 free stories every monthSave stories to read laterAccess to comment on every storySign-up/manage your newsletter subscriptions with a single clickGet notified by email for early access to discounts & offers on our products${ ind + 1 } ${ device }Last active - ${ la }
