14 Years of Clash of Clans, and the Updates Are Pushing Loyal Players Away

Wait 5 sec.

I've been playing this game on and off for around 14 years, and unfortunately, the increasingly poor quality of the updates has started to get frustrating. I'm saying this as someone who works in the marketing ecosystem and also has a solid technical understanding. 1) The entire UI seems to be focused on the Shop icon, and its prominent placement is extremely irritating. 2) From a visual perspective, the old button layout was much cleaner, created less clutter, and made the screen feel more playable. 3) The new UI also seems to consume more battery power. This could probably be optimized, but that's the impression I've gotten so far. 4) The Build icon was apparently changed because it was taking up too much screen space, but now it somehow takes up even more space. :) I can imagine that you're working with a young team using vibe coding, but I would have expected proper audience research and a more user-centered approach before rolling out these changes. A game that increasingly revolves around the Shop will eventually drive away its actual players. Speaking for myself, I'm no longer going to click the in-game Shop to buy anything. If I want to make a purchase, I'll just use the Supercell Store instead. Rather than making the UI worse under the pretext of improving the game, it would have been far more productive to focus on improving the core gameplay mechanics, especially combat and strategy. Players can now consistently triple enemy bases, and so many Clan Wars end in draws that people are losing interest in participating altogether. Some troops are barely used anymore. But sure, the marketing team can always launch another event and temporarily boost those troops to increase their usage numbers. The problem is that these are all temporary fixes, not long-term solutions. I genuinely hope the Clash of Clans and Supercell teams take this feedback seriously and find a way to address these issues. Otherwise, you risk losing even your most loyal, 14-year-long customers more easily than you might think.14 Years of Clash of Clans, and the Updates Are Pushing Loyal Players Away submitted by /u/oldwhiteblackie to r/COC [link] [comments]
