Disneyland Guests Trapped Behind Barricades, Main Exit Closes

Wait 5 sec.

Few things make a theme park evening more puzzling than being told to leave by a different door and not being told why. That’s the situation described in posts about the Disneyland Resort on October 12, 2026, which said guests weren’t being allowed to leave through the east security entrance or the front gates and were being directed elsewhere.Credit: David Fulmer, FlickrSeveral explanations appeared online, and some contradicted each other. Because of that, we’re keeping this report strictly to what was posted, who posted it, and what hasn’t been confirmed. Here’s the timeline as we currently have it, and why the explanations don’t yet add up.A word on sourcing first. The descriptions below come from social media posts and comments, not from an official statement, and we’ve labeled each one so you can see exactly where it came from. The First Report From the GroundCredit: Video Screenshot, X (Formerly Twitter), @ScottGustinMatt Desmond posted on X:Something happened at the Disneyland Resort tonight and guests aren’t being allowed to leave through the east security entrance where the Toy Story shuttles board and everyone is being directed to the west end of the resort. I’m not sure what’s happening but will post updates as they become availableThe post describes an exit restriction and a redirection. It also says plainly that the poster isn’t sure what’s happening.Something happened at the Disneyland Resort tonight and guests aren’t being allowed to leave through the east security entrance where the Toy Story shuttles board and everyone is being directed to the west end of the resort. I’m not sure what’s happening but will post updates as they become available https://t.co/SZiErBvxZj— Matt Desmond (@DisneyScoopGuy) October 13, 2026A Second PostCredit: Video Screenshot, Instagram, @iamnojedi_eitherA second post described the situation this way:Disneyland guests aren’t being allowed to exit through the front gates and are being taken through a side exit. The eastern gateway to the Disneyland Resort as well as access to the Toy Story shuttles remains closed. No confirmed reason has been reported at this time. The information we have doesn’t identify who wrote this second post, so we’re presenting it as a post and not attributing it to a specific person or outlet. Its final sentence is the most important one: no confirmed reason had been reported.Disneyland guests aren’t being allowed to exit through the front gates and are being taken through a side exit. The eastern gateway to the Disneyland Resort as well as access to the Toy Story shuttles remains closed. No confirmed reason has been reported at this time. https://t.co/n5qRKLFZEJ— Matt Desmond (@DisneyScoopGuy) October 13, 2026Videos on InstagramThe Disneylanders on Instagram shared multiple videos of security not allowing guests to exit through Harbor due to safety reasons, according to the information we have. The videos were described as showing drones in the sky and police activity on Harbor Boulevard.Something happened at the Disneyland Resort tonight and guests aren’t being allowed to leave through the east security entrance where the Toy Story shuttles board and everyone is being directed to the west end of the resort. I’m not sure what’s happening but will post updates as they become available https://t.co/SZiErBvxZj— Matt Desmond (@DisneyScoopGuy) October 13, 2026Those descriptions come from the account’s posts. We haven’t independently verified what the videos show, and “due to safety reasons” is how the activity was characterized, not an explanation of what happened. Two Explanations, Neither ConfirmedCredit: Video Screenshot, TIkTok, @pinoystarbbqOne comment on The Disneylanders’ Instagram page said: “The active police presence on Harbor Boulevard near Disneyland today, October 12, 2026, is due to a large demonstration that occurred outside the theme park entrance.”A reply to that comment pushed back: “this may have been incorrect. Lots of conflicting info out there. PulsePoint is now reporting hazardous spill with two AFD units on site.”Here’s how we’re treating those two statements. They’re comments from social media users, and neither is a confirmed explanation. The reply itself says the first comment may have been incorrect and that there was a lot of conflicting information. We aren’t endorsing either one, and the information we have doesn’t confirm which, if either, is accurate.Where Things StandCredit: Robert T, FlickrAccording to the information we have, the park did not close, and operations are resuming as normal. That’s the clearest confirmed point in the account so far. The information we have doesn’t say when operations resumed or whether any areas of the resort stayed affected afterward. What We Don’t KnowA number of questions remain open. We don’t know what caused the exit restrictions, how long they lasted, or how many guests were affected. We don’t know whether the police activity and the exit changes were related to the same event. And we don’t know whether the explanations in the Instagram comments are correct.Until something is confirmed by an official source, the accurate description is that guests were directed away from the east exit and toward the west end of the resort, and no confirmed reason has been reported. If You Had Plans at the Resort That EveningFor visitors, the practical effects described in the posts were about movement. Guests were directed to the west end of the resort, and access to the east entrance and the Toy Story shuttles was described as closed. If you were relying on that route to get back to your parking or transportation, it may have meant a different path out.If you find yourself in a similar situation, the sensible approach is to follow the directions of security and Cast Members, leave extra time, and check official channels for updates. That’s general advice, not a statement about what happened that night.UPDATE: Police Confirm a Suspicious Device Was Found Near the EsplanadeThe Anaheim Police Department confirmed to NBC4 Los Angeles that a suspicious device was found just outside the park near the Esplanade area, by the shuttle drop-off at Harbor Boulevard. Details on the device haven’t been released, and authorities are continuing to investigate. According to the reporting, no injuries have been reported. This replaces our earlier note that no confirmed reason had been reported.Harbor Boulevard was closed by police, and guests leaving the parks couldn’t exit toward Harbor. They were instead routed through the Downtown Disney District, according to the reporting. An Anaheim Fire and Rescue call tied to the incident was received at 11:10 p.m. The fan account The Disneylanders posted videos between roughly 10 p.m. and midnight showing a large police presence, including officers on the ground plus helicopters and drones overhead. By 11:24 p.m., one side of the Disneyland Park exit had closed, and eventually the full exit closed, with guests pointed through an overflow path near the firehouse. The reporting describes this as a rerouting, not an evacuation. Based on available reporting, guests were not forced out of the park and could remain or leave as they chose, but they couldn’t exit toward Harbor Boulevard. The routes described in that reporting differ from the west end and side exit mentioned in the earlier posts, and we’re presenting each as it was reported. Neither the demonstration claim nor the “hazardous spill” comment is what police confirmed, and the information we have doesn’t say whether the “AFD units” in that reply relate to the 11:10 p.m. call. The report also says Disney has not issued a public statement about the incident or the exit closures, and that the parks operated and reopened normally. Its practical advice is general: if exits start closing without explanation at any theme park, follow cast member direction and don’t try to route yourself. The post Disneyland Guests Trapped Behind Barricades, Main Exit Closes appeared first on Inside the Magic.
