Arsenal have announced the sad passing of Ken Friar OBE, the club’s Life President, at the age of 92.For generations of Arsenal supporters, Ken Friar was a name synonymous with the club itself. From Highbury to the Emirates, from Herbert Chapman’s legacy to the modern Arsenal we know today, few individuals have devoted so much of their lives to the Gunners.Arsenal’s official tribute honours the man whose remarkable association with the club began in 1945, when an 11-year-old Ken was playing football outside Highbury and caught the attention of manager George Allison. That chance encounter led to a job delivering messages for half-a-crown a week. Nobody could have imagined it would be the beginning of more than eight decades of dedication to Arsenal Football Club. From Highbury messenger boy to Arsenal Life PresidentKen joined Arsenal full-time in 1950, eventually becoming club secretary, managing director and, in 2020, Life President. He witnessed countless triumphs and challenges, but perhaps his greatest contribution was helping oversee the club’s historic move from Highbury to the Emirates Stadium.Working alongside Danny Fiszman, Ken played a crucial role in ensuring Arsenal’s future remained firmly rooted in Islington, the borough where he was born. His contribution to Arsenal’s history and identity cannot be overstated.A legacy that will live on at ArsenalVisitors to the Emirates will recognise the Ken Friar Bridge and the statue depicting a young boy playing football outside Highbury. As we reflected in our look back at the Emirates Stadium’s history, that statue celebrates a remarkable journey from local schoolboy to one of Arsenal’s most influential figures.Football clubs are often remembered for their great players and managers, but people like Ken Friar are equally important in shaping their history. He helped build the Arsenal that generations of supporters have come to love.Everyone at Just Arsenal extends our heartfelt condolences to Ken’s family, friends and all those who knew him.Rest in peace, Ken Friar OBE. Thank you for everything you gave to The Arsenal. His legacy will live on for generations of Gooners._____________________________________________________________________________________________ADMIN COMMENTSo here are some simple rules which I must insist commenters follow….You agree not to give any personal abuse to other Arsenal fans.
