Residents of Lismore, a tiny Scottish island with around 190 inhabitants, raised funds for archaeological excavations that uncovered a medieval cemetery, ancient buildings and more than 1,000 metalworking artefacts. The discoveries suggest the island was an important religious and craft centre during the sixth and seventh centuries, shedding new light on early Christianity in northern Britain.
