Burnley manager Nicky Hayen admitted he has concerns over his future after a 2-1 defeat at home to Wolves on Friday night. The Clarets will now go one year without a win at home, leading to very loud boos at the end of the game and lots of anger directed at chairman Alan Pace.Burnley are embroiled in a relegation battleGettyThe Clarets are sitting in the relegation zone on eight points and could drop to 23rd by the time the weekend is over. And with their next home game not until Halloween, it will be a full year since they last tasted victory at home. The last time they did so was on October 18, 2025 against Leeds United, winning 2-0 in the Premier League. They have played 21 matches since and haven’t won a single one, with the pressure building on Hayen to turn it around after just three months in charge.Speaking to talkSPORT after the match, the manager was asked whether he fears for his job. “I would lie if I said I didn’t,” Hayen said. “I think every manager in this position feels pressure and difficulties. “But again, if you saw our first half, that was a really good one. They didn’t create even one chance.“It was a draw at half-time. Even when we came out of the dressing room, we had a few moments where we could lead again. And then we gave the game away. “You know when the atmosphere starts to change. Players – I don’t say hide themselves – but they don’t play with 100 per cent confidence anymore. “They want to try to change it in their own way. They try to do everything positive, but they lose the structure. They’re going to play four or five touches instead of keeping the structure.“We just have to stay together. Something that I said to the fans before the season, just support for 90 minutes and then you can criticise me or the team as much as you want. “But you feel that the energy in the stadium was changing after it went 2-1. That makes it more difficult, not only for me, because I can handle that pressure, but also for the players.“If they feel positive support like the first half, then you can do more. When it starts to change, it becomes difficult.”Fan protests There were banners calling for American chairman Pace to leave Turf Moor, which led to scuffles with stewards as the atmosphere turned sour.Security staff attempted to remove the flags from view, leading to clashes with sections of supporters.Pace is the chairman and majority owner of Burnley, and after a dreadful start to the season, he is the target of many fans’ anger.Pace is public enemy number one at Turf MoorGettyView Tweet: https://x.com/hashtag/TwitterClarets?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5EtfwView Tweet: https://t.co/tSEt2GmFcaFumingOne Burnley fan joined the Weekend Sports Bar to rip into the club.Lee said: “Alan Pace needs to disappear out of my town. Get rid.“He doesn’t know what he’s doing. He’s way out of his depth.“Hayen – where do I start? He can’t see out a game. His decision making and substitutions are absolutely shocking.“Then, he takes Vardy off when we are playing well and brings Broja on. Why?”Story of the gameWith Burnley looking to charge up the table and get away from the Championship drop zone, they started very quickly and created chance after chance. It was a night to forget for Burnley and their fansGettyEventually, they grabbed the lead in the 20th minute as Jacob Bruun Larsen provided a perfect pass for Jamie Vardy. The 39-year-old made a run in behind and didn’t even take a touch.Instead, he just hit it first time across the goalkeeper and into the far corner like he has done his whole career. But soon after, an error from Kyle Walker allowed Newcastle United loanee Sean Neave to roll the ball across the box for Fer Lopez. He guided his effort off the inside of the post to level the score. In the second half, it was the visitors who were on top, but they needed two more individual errors to grab the victory.Igor Julio took an awful touch that Mateus Mane pounced upon and rolled the pass through for fellow substitute Tawanda Chirewa.Chirewa had been on the pitch for 21 seconds and rifled a shot at goal that Benjamin Coudert somehow didn’t save and tipped it into the net. From that point, the confidence drained from the home team and the visitors had a few chances to make it more comfortable before Armando Broja hit the bar.And at the full time whistle, there were very loud boos and chants of ‘Alan Pace is a w*****’.
