Saturday racing preview – Champions will be crowned at Ascot

Wait 5 sec.

It’s all about Ascot this Saturday on the racing front as Champions Day is the main event and the champion trainer, jockey and apprentice will be crowned. It’s only the trainers’ title which is yet to be decided and, with so much prize money on offer, it’s going to be a good one. They race at Leopardstown and Limerick in Ireland and Catterick, Newton Abbot, Market Rasen, Stratford and Southwell in Britain. There’s also Group 1 action across the card in Australia at Randwick and Caulfield.talkSPORT BET Betting Offer – Bet £10 and get up to £30 – CLAIM HERE*Champions DayAscot’s final Flat meeting of the season is always one to look forward to and there are no fewer than five Group 1s taking place across the seven-race card. We get underway with the Two-Year-Old Conditions Stakes, which could go the way of Charlie Appleby this year. The Long Distance Cup is missing Gold Cup winner Scandinavia but he was beaten by Caballo De Mar in the Cadran last time out and George Scott’s stayer does make the line-up. St. Leger winner Highwayman has also been declared so don’t rule him out either.Up next is the British Champions Sprint Stakes and William Haggas’ Almeraq heads the field. He won the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot and was last seen winning Haydock’s Sprint Cup. Kind Of Blue and Coppull are next in the betting.Andrew Balding is looking to get the better of Aidan O’Brien in the trainers’ championship and a third win in the race for Kalpana would certainly help his case. Minnie Hauk is O’Brien’s best chance, but she has been below her best for much of the season.Talk Of New York takes on fellow three-year-olds Gstaad, Rayif and Zavateri in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes. Perhaps O’Brien’s runner can land this valuable prize for him, having looked like the second-best miler, behind Bow Echo, this season.Only six runners have been declared for the Champion Stakes and it’s set to be an epic clash between Calandagan and Ombudsman. Constitution River could make the frame too.The always-competitive Balmoral Handicap closes out this awesome card. The rest of the actionIreland is offering both Flat and jumps action on Saturday and Leopardstown’s card includes a couple of Group 3s, the Killavullan Stakes and Eyrefield Stakes. There are also a couple of interesting Listed races on offer at Limerick.Newton Abbot’s feature race is an interesting intermediate chase and there’s more jumps action on offer at Market Rasen and Stratford. Southwell provides the evening entertainment with a compelling all-weather card to look forward to.American Grand National and moreIt’s the American Grand National at Far Hills on Saturday and there’s Irish interest once again, with Gordon Elliott sending over two runners. Punchestown Grade 1 winner Western Fold will be ridden by Jack Kennedy, while last year’s winner Zanahiyr also runs.We also have top level racing in Australia, with the Everest and King Charles III Stakes taking place at Randwick and the Caulfield Cup and Thousand Guineas at Caulfield.Ka Ying Rising is the headliner in the Everest and there will be plenty of people tuning in for it.talkSPORT BET Betting Offer – Bet £10 and get up to £30 – CLAIM HERE*Commercial content notice: Taking one of the bookmaker offers featured in this article may result in a payment to talkSPORT. 18+.
