Writes Ginny Garner:In the Netflix documentary “Mike Wallace is Here” the 60 Minutes correspondent admits “I was a hawk when I went there and it wasn’t long before I began to understand it was the wrong war, the wrong time and the wrong place.” Vietnam was the last time Wallace covered a war from the battlefield. He also reported on the My Lai Massacre where the US military murdered 504 unarmed Vietnamese villagers including babies. 60 Minutes did a lot of reporting on Vietnam and Morley Safer was the chief correspondent on the war. It was the coverage of Vietnam on TV including showing soldiers in body bags that turned public opinion against the war. In an interview Wallace says the war which killed 58,000 American soldiers was based on the lie that if Vietnam fell, all of southeast Asia would become communist. He said instead the region became a “hotbed of capitalism.”The post Mike Wallace: From Hawk to Dove on Vietnam War appeared first on LewRockwell.
