Has anyone travelled with a newborn baby around 2 to 4 weeks old? Looking for some advice and experiences from parents who’ve done something similar. We’re expecting our first baby at the end of November and have plans to visit family over Christmas, travelling by overnight ferry within the UK. Depending on when baby arrives, they could be around 2 to 4 weeks old. We’ve booked a private cabin on the ferry, have an overnight sleep-approved carrycot and reclining newborn car seat, and plan on taking regular breaks during the drive for feeding, changing and getting baby out of the car seat. We’ll be staying with close family over Christmas, with the usual boundaries in place regarding anyone who’s unwell staying away, handwashing, no kissing baby etc. We’re also planning to visit aunts and uncles around 2 hours away, staying for two nights and visiting just one or two family homes. We’re well aware of the risks with such a young baby, particularly winter illnesses like RSV, and will be taking every precaution we can. Our biggest worry is whether all the travelling between places will simply be too much for a newborn, as well as mum recovering from giving birth. Reading online can be a bit doom and gloom, which naturally makes us question things even more! Everything is booked with cancellation options, so if baby arrives late, the birth doesn’t go to plan or either mum or baby isn’t ready, we’ll happily cancel and enjoy our first Christmas as a family of three at home. Obviously, it would be lovely to spend Christmas with family, but baby’s wellbeing comes first. Has anyone done anything similar with such a young newborn? How did you find the travelling? Would you do it again, or would you recommend waiting until baby is a little older? We’d really appreciate some real-life experiences and advice from other parents. submitted by /u/OkLow3954 to r/Travelwithkids [link] [comments]
