I built an app during my Erasmus because I was surrounded by art I didn’t understand. Co-founders left the project. Here’s where it is after a full rebuild

Wait 5 sec.

Why I started During my Erasmus I was surrounded by monuments and sculptures, went to tons of museums and travelled quite a lot. But I never really felt connected to what I was seeing, unless I paid for a tour guide every time. That’s where the idea for AnyArt came from: point your camera at a painting or monument and get its history, artist and symbolism. The first version I started by connecting third-party services and got a working MVP. But it was far from usable: the camera took almost a minute to identify something, and the automatic collection (which sorts your discoveries by artist and country) didn’t work well. Along the way, two people joined the project, but both eventually left. I ended up alone, handling all the development (as originally planned), plus distribution, which one of them used to handle, and the branding. Starting over With a product that wasn’t ready to sell, I decided to rebuild it almost from scratch and give it a complete redesign. I also took over distribution myself. I had tried Meta Ads before and got exactly zero paying users, so this time I’m focusing on organic content. Where it is today The camera identifies artworks and monuments in about 6-7 seconds on average (down from almost a minute) It covers every monument that appears on Google Maps, plus the collections of the main museums in Europe and the US The automatic collection barely makes mistakes now Organic distribution is going surprisingly well I still have no paying users and I’m still solo, but I believe in this project more than ever. Try it It’s freemium. When you open it you’ll see a free trial screen: you can start the trial, which gives you unlimited scans, or close it with the X in the top right corner and use the free version with 1 scan a day. App Store: https://apps.apple.com/sa/app/anyart-your-personal-guide/id6757247748 If you’d like to support the project, there’s also a Lifetime option for $4.99 that unlocks unlimited scans and the full catalog (the price may vary slightly by region): https://apps.apple.com/redeem?ctx=offercodes&id=6757247748&code=ANYARTLIFETIME I hope someone finds it useful, and any feedback is more than welcome! submitted by /u/ccao_ [link] [comments]
