Developer Carlo Stivala has been given 30 days to clear an outdoor dining area outside Piccolo Padre in Sliema after the Lands Authority issued an eviction notice over the occupation of public land. The latest enforcement action concerns a section of the Strand which authorities say Stivala is occupying without a title or permit. He has been ordered to vacate the area and remove any structures or objects placed there. It follows earlier action by the Planning Authority over a structure erected outside the restaurant, which housed tables and chairs on a paved section of the road. The structure was subsequently dismantled, but the paving, tables and chairs remained, prompting further criticism from residents and NGOs.The Lands Authority issued its eviction notice on Tuesday, giving Stivala 30 days to comply. This is the shortest period the authority can give under the Lands Act, which allows between 30 and 90 days. The controversy has sparked opposition from local groups, with 18 NGOs calling on the Lands Authority to immediately ensure that furniture and other additions are removed from the public area. They also argued that any future application for outdoor dining at the site should only be considered in accordance with the relevant legislation.Photo: movimentgraffitti•
