Former Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood has backed Harry Kane to make a return to north London, with the England captain’s contract at Bayern nearing its expiration. There is no denying that Harry Kane has enjoyed immense success with Bayern Munich since leaving Tottenham Hotspur three seasons ago.During his time in Germany, the England captain has won several team accolades, including two Bundesliga titles, two Supercups and two DFB-Pokals.On an individual level, the former Spurs striker has been equally impressive:European Golden Shoe – twiceBundesliga Top Scorer (Golden Boot) – three timesGerman Footballer of the Year – 2026His goalscoring record has also gone up another level, with Kane netting 154 goals in 156 appearances, while also providing 37 assists.Kane’s outstanding form last year has even placed him in the conversation for the Ballon d’Or, with the forward among the favourites.Photo by Stephen Pond/Getty ImagesTim Sherwood tips Tottenham return for Harry KaneWhile Kane’s contract with Bayern Munich runs out next summer, reports say he has an ‘agreement in principle’ over a new deal that will run until 2029. However, there is also belief that the England captain could return to the Premier League in the coming years. The incentive of breaking the all-time Premier League goalscoring record held by Alan Shearer remains strong, with Kane needing 48 goals to do so.If he does return to England, the big question is who he joins. Spurs will always be a possible destination, given it is where he made his name.Fabrizio Romano reported recently that Bayern and Kane’s camp were discussing what to do about Tottenham’s matching rights clause in the original contract. Whether it will carry over to the new deal remains to be seen.Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United, Liverpool and Manchester City stand as the other potential options among the traditional big six. But Tim Sherwood, who gave Kane his Spurs debut, believes it makes more sense for the striker to return to north London.Speaking on The Overlap Daily, Sherwood told Jamie Redknapp: “Kane will look for a way back to the Premier League, so he can break Shearer’s record. Will he go to Man United? Not at the moment; he won’t because he can’t win anything. He’ll probably sign a new deal.“Stay at Bayern for another year and a half. Then he will look for a way back. At the moment, he would [pick Tottenham over Man United]. Why would he choose Man United over Tottenham?“He might as well go to a club where he’s loved. If there’s an opportunity to go to another club, apart from Arsenal and Chelsea, because he’s never going there. I think Tottenham finish above Man United.”Kane’s impact if Spurs secure returnKane, now 33, is at the absolute peak of his powers, having just recorded his best individual season in terms of goalscoring – second only to Lionel Messi. While Kane has been thriving in Germany, the same cannot be said of Spurs, who have struggled domestically without their former talisman. The former Spurs striker scored 73 goals in the 2025/26 season, a career-best tally. If he were to return to Tottenham, he would surely improve their league standing.Tottenham have finished 17th in two of the three seasons since Kane left N17 and have been struggling badly for goals. Last season, the Lilywhites managed just 48 Premier League goals, while this season they have scored only three in six matches. If Kane does return, there is no doubt those numbers would rise significantly. But would he even think about returning if Spurs aren’t competing at the top of the table?READ MORE: Dejan Kulusevski bench decision could hint he is on the verge of a Tottenham returnThe post Harry Kane backed for Tottenham Hotspur return despite new Bayern Munich contract appeared first on Spurs Web.
