A Premier League return makes little sense for Harry Kane, he has everything he needs at Bayern Munich. That’s the view of talkSPORT’s chief football correspondent Alex Crook, who has backed the England captain’s decision to stay in Germany after agreeing terms on a new contract with Bayern.Harry Kane is amongst the favourites for this year’s Ballon d’OrGettytalkSPORT understands that Kane is set to sign a three-year deal that will keep him in Bavaria until the summer of 2029.He was due to be a free agent at the end of the season, which prompted speculation over a return to the Premier League. Before joining Bayern in 2023, the 33-year-old netted a staggering 280 goals in 435 appearances for Tottenham, making him the club’s all-time record goalscorer.Of his Spurs tally, 213 of Kane’s goals came in the Premier League, putting him second only to Alan Shearer in the all-time charts. With Shearer’s record standing at an unmatched 260 top-flight goals, there has long been talk over whether Kane would return to England to try and better this number. While a clause in the striker’s previous Bayern deal gave Spurs had a first refusal to re-sign him, his new contract would appear to rule out him coming back to the Premier League.Kane will be 36 by the time the three-year deal in place expires, with his long-term future in football likely to be in question then.Premier League snobbery?talkSPORT’s Crook has insisted a return to the Premier League was never in Kane’s best interests, highlighting his stellar time at Bayern. The English ace has scored 154 goals in all competitions for the German giants, winning back-to-back Bundesliga titles, while his historic 61-goal campaign last season now places him among the favourites for the Ballon d’Or.Asked if the possibility of Kane breaking Shearer’s record was now over, Crook told talkSPORT: “Maybe. But the question I would ask – is it Premier League snobbery that we seriously thought he would come back? Kane enjoyed a stellar 2025/26 season for Bayern and EnglandGettyBut Kane’s contract decision now means Alan Shearer’s Premier League record is safe for nowGetty“He’s playing for one of the biggest clubs in Europe. He’s playing for a team who are pretty much nailed on to win the league every year in Germany. They’re going to go deep in the Champions League. “Why would he come back? He’s not going to go and join Arsenal because of his Tottenham connections. We don’t know what’s happening with Manchester City with their points deductions.” With Crook a diehard Manchester United fan, he was even willing to admit that a move to Michael Carrick’s struggling side would make little sense for Kane’s career prospects.talkSPORT’s chief football correspondent also claimed the Bundesliga’s intensity has helped his England career – with Kane notching six goals in the recent international break. He continued: “Why would he go to Man United when he’s at Bayern Munich? “I think he’s done absolutely the right thing. His family love it in Bavaria. The fans love him.Kane started in all four of England’s games over the extended international break, scoring six goalsShutterstock Editorial“He’s scoring goals. I think it actually helps his England form that he’s playing in a slightly less demanding league week in week out.“It’s a no-brainer for me.” Crook’s co-host Sam Matterface agreed, saying: “He’s got no reason to leave because, for him, England is everything and Bayern Munich gives him the best platform to improve as a player has improved him as a player No doubt.“But also to manage his fitness in such a way that he can perform on the biggest stage. He’s been a revelation since he’s been there.”He later added: “He’ll probably not catch Alan Shearer’s 260 premier league goals. But to be honest, I think he’s more obsessed with doing it for England.”
