This story contains spoilers for You Can See Everything. When Nathan Fielder asked Elizabeth Holmes to document the days leading up to her serving her prison sentence for his new A24 documentary, You Can See Everything, the proposition meant that he would also be spending a large portion of the shoot with Holmes’s partner, Billy Evans. The documentary spends time delving into Holmes’s public legal scandal with Theranos—the now-defunct biotech company that saw her committing investment fraud—but it also sheds light on Holmes and Evans’s relationship and how they have managed to thrive despite her sentencing. As the documentary, co-directed by Lance Oppenheim, progresses, Fielder’s focus shifts from Holmes to Evans. “Weren’t you worried she was scamming you?” Fielder asked him at one point, to which Evans responded, “100 percent, but what does she have to gain from me?” When presented with the knowledge of his family’s wealth, Evans defended Holmes and said, “I think there’s a lot of different levels of wealth.” Things only snowball from there. Here’s what we know about Evans.Jump to:He is a hotel heir.He attended MIT.He works at a biotechnology startup.Evans met Holmes in 2017 through mutual friends. They share two children.Evans advocated for Holmes while she was on trial. He has not seen the documentary yet.He maintains why he wanted to participate in the film.He is a hotel heir.Evans’s grandparents, William and Anne Evans, own the Evans Hotel Group. Founded in 1953, Evans Hotels consists of three luxury properties, which include The Lodge Terry Pines, the Bahia Resort Hotel, and the Catamaran Resort Hotel and Spa. All three of the properties are located in California. He attended MIT.Evans’s LinkedIn profile revealed that he attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology between 2011 and 2015. He earned his bachelor’s degree in economics. He works at a biotechnology startup.Evans’s LinkedIn also revealed that he’s the CEO of Haemanthus, his self-founded AI-driven medical testing startup; he’s held the role since 2022. The company aims to achieve a mission similar to that of Holmes’s Theranos, which sought to provide blood diagnostics through one drop of blood with the Edison machine. Instead of using one drop of blood for diagnostics, Haemanthus is working to create a device that tests blood in addition to urine and saliva for the presence of diseases.“This is not Theranos 2.0. Theranos attempted to miniaturize existing tests. Our approach is fundamentally different. We use light to read the complete molecular story in biological fluids, seeing patterns current tests can’t detect. Not an improvement. A different paradigm,” the company shared in a statement to Fortune in 2025, following reports of Holmes advising on the project. “Setting the record straight. Elizabeth Holmes has zero involvement in Haemanthus. We’ve learned from her company’s mistakes, but she has no role, now or future.”Evans met Holmes in 2017 through mutual friends. In a 2023 joint interview with The New York Times, Evans revealed that he and Holmes fell for each other fast. “To say we immediately fell in love isn’t an overstatement,” he said.Holmes, however, noted that Evans had some reservations about entering a relationship with her. “It had been two years of all this stuff written about me, and I think you get to know someone in a totally different way when you walk in with that skepticism versus if you meet when everything is sunshine and roses,” she said. “That allowed us to get to know each other in a really deep way.” The couple got engaged in August 2018.They share two children.Holmes gave birth to their son, William Holmes Evans, in 2021. By 2023, a court document revealed that Holmes gave birth to her and Evans’s second child, a daughter named Invicta.Evans advocated for Holmes while she was on trial.Evans attended several of Holmes’s court dates, appearing by her side on the way to and from her hearings. In January 2022, she was found guilty of three counts of wire fraud and one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud. She’s currently serving her sentence—which was reduced to nine years from 11 years—at Federal Prison Camp Bryan in Texas. She will be transferred to a halfway house in August 2027.While Holmes was sentenced, Evans asked the court in November 2022 to shorten her sentence so she could enjoy more special moments with their son. “My heart is broken with the thought of spending any days away from Liz, for a future in which my son grows up with a relationship with his mother on the other side of glass armed by guards,” he said. Evans still visits Holmes regularly, with him telling People in February 2025 that it has been “hell and torture” at the prison facility. The tech CEO added that it “shatters” Holmes when she says goodbye to him and her family. He has not seen the documentary yet.You Can See Everything makes some shocking revelations about Evans, like that he posts from Holmes’s X account while she’s in prison (for a while, it was without her knowledge), and that he arranged to be paid for his and Holmes’s appearance in the documentary, which he ultimately rescinded. (It’s unclear whether Holmes knew about the deal.)During a screening of the film in L.A. this month, Fielder said of the couple, “Neither of them have seen the film. Elizabeth is still incarcerated; Billy hasn’t seen it.” He added, according to The Hollywood Reporter, that Evans “started trying to exert a level of control over the process that made it very hard to engage with him, and it was uncomfortable for us and also A24 and everyone. And I think we sort of had to stop—I think communication broke down basically, and we’ve been in that like state for a little bit. So it’s been challenging in that way.”Evans confirmed that he hasn’t seen the film during an interview with the All In podcast, which was released on October 15. “I haven’t seen it. I might think this is the dumbest thing I have ever done,” Evans said, per Variety. He has seen the trailer and said that Holmes “looks insane” in it. Evans added, “Am I nervous? I have been through so many intense, surreal experiences that it takes a bit to raise my blood pressure. With this, there’s certainly concern, but it’s ultimately our decision.”He maintains why he wanted to participate in the film.On All In, Evans elaborated on why he wanted to make the film ahead of Holmes’s 11-year sentence. “She’s been prevented from speaking publicly in any way, shape or form, and this would come out after that period in which she is now allowed to talk,” he said. “There’s been a lot of media produced on her. There’s been a lot of people who have told her story. That narrative is pretty ossified. The whole idea was: Here she is, see her and make up your own mind. It’s not to re-litigate the case. Practically, at this time she was not allowed to talk about the case, so she was gonna follow the rules and not talk about the case.”He explained that his own loved ones have thought he was “crazy” for knowing—and now being in a relationship with—Holmes. “And they would meet her and spend time with her and see her in a totally natural environment, like going on a hike or helping a friend. Every opinion of her would radically shift,” Evans said. “That was the intention of the film. To help scale that up and allow other people to sit with her and make up their own minds.”
