Long story short, I was in room with my pt, who was on bipap, to redraw labs when they went from satting in mid 90s to all the way down to 62%. I called a rapid when pt hit 86% due to the fast decline and pt’s medical hx (which makes respiratory function a concern). By the time whole team came and prepared for intubation, pt reached 62%. Pt got intubated and then arrested soon after, in which I immediately began compressions. Pt got ROSC in under 5 min and made it to ICU. This is as positive as an outcome as you can get for an intubation and arrest, however I feel like I have failed the pt by not noticing something sooner. There’s also the feeling of wanted to cry or scream and not being able to. It’s a weird feeling. You save a pt, but now they occupy your mind and you wonder how they are doing and if they could make a full recovery. Anyone else ever feel this way? submitted by /u/catharsisisrahtac [link] [comments]
