[EVENT] Nehru Speachifies in Support of Wheat Agreement

Wait 5 sec.

Jawaharlal Nehru, while in London on other business, issues a statement in support of the international wheat agreement "The people of the world have long struggled against one another in the age of mortal competition, and domination. This domination often being characterized by the use of food as a weapon, both to pacify the people of a rival population, through the merchantile suppression of the welfare of its farmers, and by violence against them via deprivation, and theft, of that which is most fundamental for human existence. That era of the world has now passed, and we embark together upon the voyage of peace. As passengers together we must mind each others needs as if they were our own, and use our strength to best benefit and sustain each other. Upon the shoulders of the worlds farmers rests the welfare of the people; and that shared productive agricultural capacity belongs not to one nation, but to the people of the world. The Republic of India wholeheartedly endorses these agreements; not just because some stabilization of prices would temporarily benefit it; but because it empathizes with that burden which all farmers, and societies carry, and sees their struggles as its own. For those who have yet to join, we understand the distrust that exists in your heart, as we ourselves have been victimized in the past. However, healing may only happen through vulnerability. To allow those who have wronged one in the past to act honorably in the future. Have hope for your fellow man, and he will surprise you with his generosity, and humility. So let us take up these agreements in good faith, that world may never against experience hunger." submitted by /u/771058 to r/ColdWarPowers [link] [comments]
