For months my app’s onboarding was a mess. Every tutorial/tour library I tried had routing issues with expo-router: tooltips pointing at elements on the wrong screen, tours dying the moment the user navigated, hacks on top of hacks. So I stopped fighting it and built my own: a 100% open-source tour library designed for expo-router from day one. The before/after: Once I shipped a proper guided tour, [signup → activation / trial → paid] conversion went up ~10% over 2 weeks. Turns out users weren’t leaving because the app was bad. They were leaving because they never found the features that mattered. How it works (4 steps): Declare the route where the element you want to highlight lives Wrap your app in a Mark the target component Start the tour Why it’s different: It’s declarative, so it doesn’t break when you navigate between screens. Tours can jump across routes smoothly, and you can chain and branch tutorials based on what the user does. What’s next: Full React Navigation support is the main goal. It’s free and open source: https://github.com/CarlosCaoLopez/react-native-quick-walkthrough. I’d love feedback, and if you’re building with Expo, I’d like to know how you handle onboarding today. submitted by /u/ccao_ [link] [comments]
