Hey r/SideProject 👋 I've been building Ambient New Tab, a Chrome extension that turns the new tab page into living wallpaper. You still get your search bar and clock, but behind them something is alive instead of a blank page. This one is Eagle Ray Flats: - Everything is drawn live in WebGL. It isn't a looping video, so it never repeats. - The rays' swimming is based on footage of real spotted eagle rays: flap-and-glide, banking turns, digging for clams, and the occasional leap. - The light follows your real local sunset. Day turns to golden hour, then twilight, then night, when the rays' spots and the silver fish start to glow. - Your pointer leaves ripples on the water, and curious rays come over to check it out. The video is one unbroken shot, sped up from the real ~45-minute sunset. Eagle Ray Flats is one of the Pro themes. The extension comes with free themes, and Pro unlocks the rest: ambientnewtab.com I'd love honest feedback. What would make you keep something like this as your new tab? submitted by /u/Apprehensive-File215 [link] [comments]
