There was no speed duel to worry about in the GII Lexus Raven Run Stakes, and Movie Night (Speightstown) made the most of it in the lane to collect her first graded victory. The 33-1 longshot Mythical (St Patrick's Day) caught a flier out of the gate to control the tempo through uncontested splits of :22.75 and four furlongs in :45.84 with Movie Night never far away from her in third. Unlike the frontrunner, 2-1 favorite Mashallah (Maxfield) didn't have the best of breaks and found herself in last going into the turn. Conceit (Not This Time) raced from midpack and was never far off the pace as they swung through the bend, but was not making up ground on the leader.Turning for home, Mythical was still in front but her shadow, Movie Night, was bearing down on her from the overland route and closing the gap with every stride. Overhauling the longtime leader inside the final sixteenth, the victress kicked away to a clear margin. Mythical gamely held on to second while 51-1 longshot Army's Marauder (Army Mule) claimed third to set more than a few tickets on fire. The final time was 1:23.28.There was an objection and a stewards' inquiry into the start of the race that left Mashallah in dead last early, but ultimately no change was made to the running order.Movie Night was last seen Sept. 19 finishing third in a desperate photo in the GIII Dogwood Stakes that saw Conceit run her and Explora (Blame) down late after a speed duel on the front end.O/B-WinStar Farm (KY); T-William Walden.
