It was a race that came down to the final strides that went the way of Dr. Kapur (McKinzie) to post a massive 24-1 upset in the GIII Perryville Stakes at Keeneland. The field broke well and Roscoe's Brother (Violence) beat them all the punch to take the lead. Rolling along through brisk fractions of :22.11 and a half-mile in :44.59, he was still on an open advantage on the far turn even as 4-5 favorite Deep Flame (Into Mischief) tried to cut into the margin behind a six panel split in 1:10.27. Dr. Kapur, in the meanwhile, was content to watch the pace unfold in front of him as one of the back markers, and went to improve his position as the field closed ranks. Roscoe's Brother enjoyed a clear advantage turning for home, but the closers were coming as he got leg weary.First to emerge from the scramble was 'TDN Rising Star, presented by Hagyard' Chief Wallabee (Constitution) as he chased gamely through the lane and rallied steadily to overtake the tiring leader. He was briefly clear but had competition coming as Dr. Kapur was produced late along with 'Rising Star' Obliteration (Violence), and the trio came together in the final strides for a blanket photo. Dr. Kapur got the best of the finish while Chief Wallabee held on to second over Obliteration. The final time was 1:24.25.Dr. Kapur was last seen producing a similar effort to run second Sept. 19 in the GII Gallant Bob Stakes at Parx. The victor that afternoon was dual surface graded winner Stradale (Yaupon).O-Kenneth Ramsey; B-Ken & Sarah Ramsey; T-Saffie Joseph Jr. Watch the full replay as DR.
