New grad panic: I created a double Pyxis discrepancy on oxycodone and gave it to the patient before fixing it with my charge. Should I be worried about getting in trouble?

Wait 5 sec.

Hey everyone, looking for some serious reassurance because my new grad anxiety is through the roof right now and I can’t sleep. On my shift today, I went to pull a single oxycodone for a patient. The Pyxis popped up with a blind count. I totally fumbled the math, got flustered, and entered the wrong number. I tried to correct it, but I panicked and entered a second completely different wrong number. My patient was waiting and in pain, so I just grabbed the ordered dose, went and gave it to the patient, and then came back to the machine. I looped in my charge nurse to help me fix it. We did a physical count together along with another new grad as a witness, the inventory perfectly matched what was supposed to be left in the drawer, and he co-signed/resolved the discrepancy. My charge nurse wasn’t stressed at all and was literally making jokes about it, but he did mention that entering two different numbers was "bad" but didn’t explain why. I just got off my shift and I am terrified. Am I going to get written up, or lose my job over this? Does the fact that I gave the med before resolving the screen make it look like diversion? Please tell me I’m overreacting submitted by /u/Weekly-Discount-4940 [link] [comments]
