Hey all, I'm printing a 1.6 m tall statue on a Bambu H2S in PLA. The model came from Blender, and getting it printable turned into a much bigger job than I expected. My workflow was: scale the model in Blender, cut it into pieces that fit the build plate, export STLs, and fix problems as they came up. Problems I ran into: Loose bits that only touched the main body at a point, so they'd print as separate pieces or snap off Non-manifold edges and mesh errors after the cuts Joints where two parts touch over a tiny area (some under 1 cm²), so glue alone won't hold Thin walls with no room for alignment pins Visible faceting on curved surfaces from the low-poly source model Needing metal rods through the legs and wing roots so it doesn't snap or tip over It's printing now, but it ended up as 40+ body parts plus brackets, splices and drill jigs, which feels way too complicated. So my questions: What's your workflow for splitting a large Blender model into printable parts? Do you cut in Blender, or use a slicer cut tool (Bambu Studio / Orca with dowel connectors), LuBan 3D, Meshmixer, Netfabb, something else? How do you choose where to cut so seams are hidden but joints still have enough glue area? How do you deal with low-poly faceting: subdivide or remesh before export, or just sand and fill afterwards? Connectors: printed pins, wooden dowels, magnets, metal rods? What holds up best on big, top-heavy prints? Any tool that checks the whole assembly (wall thickness, contact area between parts, fit on the build plate) instead of one part at a time? Any tips, tutorials or "I wish I'd known this" stories are welcome. Thanks!
