New Grad RN Starting in a Pediatric ED — Please Give Me Your Most Honest Advice!

Wait 5 sec.

Hi everyone! I’m a new grad RN, and I recently started my first hospital nursing job in a Pediatric Emergency Department! I’m really excited but also nervous. I know the ED can be overwhelming, especially as a new grad, and I want to become a competent, confident, and most importantly, safe nurse. I’d love to hear from experienced Peds ED nurses or anyone who’s been in my position. Please be brutally honest!!!!😭😭😭😭 What do you wish you knew before starting in Peds ED? What are the biggest mistakes new grads make? What skills, medications, and pediatric emergencies should I focus on learning? How did you get comfortable with pediatric IVs, medication calculations, and recognizing a deteriorating child? What are some things I should NEVER do as a new grad? How long did it take you to feel confident? Any resources or study materials you’d recommend? submitted by /u/Flyingdohg206 [link] [comments]
