The screenshot of the Wi-Fi password. The boarding pass PDF. That one photo of a parrot. File names are useless and Google Photos only searches photos, so I built Trove for Android. You describe what you're looking for and it finds the file: - "a bird of prey" finds an eagle, an owl and a parrot, none of them named "bird" - "when is my flight" finds the boarding pass PDF and highlights the flight number - "wifi password" finds the screenshot and keeps the password masked until you tap Under the hood: every photo, screenshot, PDF, document, video and voice note is indexed on the phone. Text comes out with on-device OCR, and Google's EmbeddingGemma 2 model (740M, multimodal) turns each file into a vector. Search blends keyword and meaning. The index is encrypted and nothing is uploaded. It's also a full file manager (copy, move, rename, "Show in Folder") and a reader for PDFs, images, video and audio. It's in a free beta on Google Play. If you've got an Android phone, DM me the email you use for Google Play and I'll add you right away, or see more at https://trove-search.web.app Brutal feedback very welcome. What would you search for first? submitted by /u/widdle_studios [link] [comments]
