My employer pays $0.76/mile if I drive my personal car for work travel. For 5.5 hours each way at a conservative 60mph, that 660 mile round trip would reimburse me ~$500. So $200 is not reasonable compensation for wear and tear unless they find someone who is already going that direction. How about meals? Do you expect them to turn right around and drive back same day or will you cover hotel for a night? This beggar likely isn’t a numbers person, which is okay because it keeps people like me gainfully employed. There’s nothing wrong with seeing the world ignorant to the inner workings of things, I only wish they wouldn’t drag others into their delusion.
