TL;DR: I was considering getting a custom license plate. Before making the purchase, I wanted to visualize how it would look and experiment with multiple options. I discovered that no such tool existed, so I decided to build one myself. I am sharing this because I am interested in hearing other people's opinions and would love to spark a constructive discussion here. Story As a UX/UI designer with strong expertise in SEO, I recognized a clear gap in the market. My initial analysis indicated that, if executed correctly, the website could attract up to 9,000 organic visits per month without any advertising budget. I teamed up with a developer friend, giving us the complete skill set required for a successful launch. How it started We started with a MVP to validate the SEO data quickly. The initial website copy was largely AI-generate, but it served its purpose perfectly for an early launch. The license plate preview itself and font, however, was designed from scratch by myself. Organic traffic began to climb steadily, eventually reaching a point where we could transition out of the MVP phase and strategize our next moves. Today It has now been six months since the launch. The website currently brings in 6,000 visitors per month, with a CTR hovering around 40%. Over the past three months, we have maintained a stable baseline of just over 18,000 total organic visits. This traffic is entirely organic; we run no ads and do zero active promotion. The primary function of the platform is to verify the availability of custom license plates. The secondary, monetized component operates as an e-commerce store integrated with a complex, highly functional graphic editor. Users can design and order physical license plates featuring an authentic Czech layout, which are often used for business branding, film props, or unique gifts. When it comes to monetization, I personally miss the internet of the "good old days." That is why our site has absolutely no ads, no subscriptions, and zero marketing tricks. While this might not be the most sensible approach from a purely financial standpoint, I believe it is a user-first philosophy that is rarely seen today. What sets our project apart from the rest: Absolute authenticity: We offer a 100% faithful representation of all license plate types. Historical formats: Users can even design and generate older license plate formats that are no longer in active circulation. Instant live preview: The plate design updates in real-time instantly as the user types. Zero clutter: A completely ad-free experience with no unnecessary "fluff" or bloated text. High added value: Ultimately, I personally see this as a platform that delivers significant, genuine value to its users. Finally, I want to extend a thank you to my friend and co-creator. Without his technical expertise and dedication, this project would have never gotten off the ground. submitted by /u/evilbulk [link] [comments]
