Why is open source still far behind Seedance 2.5

Wait 5 sec.

Deepseek, Mimo, Qwen and others have made tremendous progress in coding and other text based applications. However when it comes to video, I fear we can’t say the same? Yes MiniMax H3 is good, but every time I try Seedance 2.5, I’m reminded how much better the results can be. The environment, lighting, realism, motion, consistency, how well it follows prompts, and the fact that you can generate videos up to 30 seconds long. I just haven’t found anything open source that comes close to the whole package. And I’m tired of paying for these platforms. (Higgsfield credits disappear way too quickly when you’re experimenting 😭) What I don’t get is why there isn’t a decent open source alternative on the workflow side, at least. Like, even if we can’t match Seedance at the model level, couldn’t we chain together existing models to generate individual shots, keep characters consistent, handle transitions, and stitch everything into a longer video? Something that gets you 70-80% of the way there without burning through credits every time you change a prompt. Maybe I’m underestimating how hard this is, but I’m surprised there isn’t a more mature project for this yet. Has anyone actually managed to build a workflow like this with ComfyUI or other open source tools? Or is the gap between these models just too big for orchestration to make a meaningful difference? P.S. Tried posting this in ComfyUI thread but for some reason they deleted my post lol. Not sure why. It’s a genuine frustration! submitted by /u/ByteSize_Chaos [link] [comments]
