Torsion Box Calculator - a free woodworking planner with live drawings and printable cut lists

Wait 5 sec.

I’m planning a 48 × 84 in workbench top for my shop and built a calculator to help work out the torsion box layout. A torsion box has an internal grid of ribs sandwiched between top and bottom panels. Changing the overall size or material thickness affects the rib lengths, openings, and joint positions, so I wanted to see those changes together. The calculator includes live drawings, cut lists, half-lap notch positions, dog-hole planning, and printable plans. It’s free to use and doesn’t require an account. One detail I spent a lot of time on was fractional measurements. Imperial construction dimensions use exact 1/32 in increments. The repeated interior openings stay equal, while the perimeter bays absorb the remaining space. Try it here: https://torsionboxcalculator.com/ I’d appreciate feedback on the workflow, especially whether it’s clear how to go from entering dimensions to getting a usable printed plan. submitted by /u/fatguylaughing [link] [comments]
