Tyson Fury was just as confused as everyone when the scorecards were read out for the co-main event of the Daniel Dubois vs Fabio Wardley bill. After 12 high-octane rounds at London’s O2 Arena on Saturday night, it looked as though Michael Gomez Jr had done more than enough to be crowned the new British and Commonwealth lightweight champion.Gomez Jr dominated O’Doherty, but the fight was declared a majority drawThe Mancunian overwhelmed defending champion Louie O’Doherty with suffocating pressure from bell to bell, and most ringside observers felt that he had taken the fight by a landslide. While O’Doherty never stopped firing back, he couldn’t match Gomez Jr’s work rate. You would be hard-pressed to have given O’Doherty more than three rounds at the end of the contest. However, the judges saw it very differently. They ruled the contest a majority draw as O’Doherty retained his belts under controversial circumstances. One judge edged the fight to Gomez Jr by a narrow margin of 115-114, while the other two scored it 114-114 even.A disheartened Gomez Jr stormed out of the ring in the immediate aftermath. And Fury was just as perplexed by the result.Tyson Fury fumes at ‘bad robbery’Taking to Instagram to voice his frustration, Fury said: “I just watched that Gomez Jr fight.“He only lost 2 rounds, and he won 10, and they gave it a draw. You would be hard-pressed to have given O’Doherty more than three rounds“That is a bad robbery that, f***ing hell, pull your finger out.“How in the world did you give it a draw? You robbed a lad of his title.“Boxing’s f***** up, man. You can’t leave it to the judges.”Gomez Jr reacts After composing himself, Gomez Jr spoke to ringwalkmedia12.“I feel robbed, mate. I’m not the first, and I’m not the last person it’s going to happen to,” he said.“The only rounds he won were the last two because I was told to stay on my feet and you’re up.View Tweet: https://x.com/hashtag/DuboisWardley2?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw“You have got people like Carl Frampton, Darren Barker, Adam Smith and Andy Lee, and they had me four or five rounds up going into the final round…“I’m not going to cry wolf because it’s life, but right now I am going to struggle to come back from that because it hurts.“Then again, they will probably offer me a rematch in February for more money, and I’ll probably say, ‘Alright, I’m over it’.”Watch Boxing on DAZN*If you click a link in this boxout, we will earn affiliate revenueSign up to DAZN to access the definitive subscription for boxing fans.Upgrade to DAZN Ultimate from just £24.99/month, guaranteeing access to 185+ fights annually, a minimum of 12 pay-per-views at no extra cost, as well as every Lega Serie A match and other elite football access.Alternatively, DAZN Standard is just £15.99/month, with the caveat you will have to pay for pay-per-view events.Click here to sign up.
