Phil Foden has been warned he is unlikely to fight his way back into the England squad anytime soon.Foden scored in Man City’s 3-2 win over Ipswich on Saturday – his first of the season.Foden scored his first goal of the season for City on SaturdayGettyIt was also the first time he featured for City in nearly a month as he served a suspension for his red card in September’s Manchester derby. The 26-year-old has played for England 49 times since making his debut in 2020, but was not selected for the 2026 World Cup.He was also omitted from Thomas Tuchel’s squad for the recent Nations League games.Foden last featured for England in March in two pre-World Cup friendlies, but failed to stake a claim for a place at the tournament in the US, Canada and Mexico. He seems to be well out of Tuchel’s plans with a glut of options in the No.10 role and on the left.Journalist Henry Winter told talkSPORT’s Sunday Edition that he is unlikely to regain a spot in the squad. When asked where his career is at the moment, Winter said: “It’s very much at City. I don’t really see him getting back into the England fold. “Where is he going to fit in now? We’ve got rid of this daft argument which seemed to be occurring of who should be England’s starting number 10. Should it be Rogers or Bellingham? Bellingham is an absolute elite world class player and the World Cup highlighted that as if anyone who’s watched England needed any reminding of that. “So you’ve got Bellingham at 10. You’ve got Rogers obviously going. He can also play wide as he’s showing at Chelsea. They’re slightly tucked in. “Then you’ve got so many others who are ahead of him. Not necessarily [Eberechi] Eze, but [Morgan] Gibbs-White, [Cole] Palmer, and you’ve got Josh King. He’s playing so well for Fulham.Foden last played for England in March- but is unlikely to be back soonGetty“So does Foden necessarily get back in? I’m not so sure.”Foden on Man City chargesFoden conducted his post-match interview with an inflatable banana, which has become the symbol of City defiance after being found guilty of significant financial rule breaches.City were found guilty in September of all charges relating to financial rule breaks by an independent commission. The club, who have appealed, were adjudged to have artificially inflated their revenue by £900million via ‘sham’ contracts from the 2009/10 season to 2017/18. “I’m going to get one for my son as a present, I think,” Foden told club media. “I think he wanted one, so I can give him one now.” “It hasn’t affected us one bit,” the 26-year-old added to Sky Sports.City fans brandished inflatable bananas at the Etihad on SaturdayAFP“We’ve just stuck together, just did what we normally do and focus on the games one by one and just be ourselves. I think we’ve done that really well.“We have great characters and leaders in the changing room. Nothing’s changed. We’re just fully focused and trying to do the best for the fans that we can.”
