ROMEO5X-AMR Combo Kit Switches Reticles When the Magnifier Moves

Wait 5 sec.

Most red dot and magnifier setups are roommates. They share a rail, and that is about it. SIG Sauer wants the ROMEO5X-AMR Combo Kit to be more like a tag team. The red dot and the JULIET3-MICRO AMR magnifier come in one box for $499.99, and the two actually talk to each other. You won’t hear them talking, but your eyes will see the trick. This is a lot more than the usual bundle. The trick is called AMR, short for Automatic Modified Reticle. Flip the magnifier into place and the red dot notices, swapping to a reticle configuration built for the longer view. Flip it away and the dot switches back for close work. The shooter does it all "without ever breaking their sight picture," with no menus, no buttons and no fiddling mid-transition. I get a little excited writing this; I really want to see this before my eyes and see the benefits. There is plenty to switch between, too. The Quad Ballistic Circle Dot 2.0 reticle offers four options: a 2 MOA dot, a 2 MOA dot with ballistic holds, a 2 MOA/65 MOA circle dot, and a 2 MOA/65 MOA circle dot with ballistic holds. The holdover points are calculated for 5.56 NATO and 7.62x51mm NATO. Unfortunately, there are no images of what it looks like, so hopefully TFB can review the system as soon as possible. The ROMEO5X-AMR red dot has a multi-coated lens and a parallax-free optical design. It offers 15 brightness settings, 12 for daytime and three for use with night vision. MOTAC motion-activated illumination powers the dot up when it senses movement and shuts it down when it does not, which gives up to 40,000 hours of runtime from a single AAA battery. The housing is integral aluminum, and the optic is IPX7 waterproof and fogproof. The absolute co-witness sight height is 1.41 inches. Lens protection comes from several coatings: SpectraCoat anti-reflection coatings maximize light transmission, LensArmor coatings resist abrasion and the mil-spec LenShield oleophobic coating sheds water, oil and grime. The second half of the kit is the JULIET3-MICRO AMR, an ultra-compact magnifier with a dielectric-coated prism for light transmission and an aircraft-grade aluminum housing. A push-button flip-to-side mount lets the shooter move between 1X and 3X magnification quickly, and the JULIET3-MICRO is IPX7 waterproof and fogproof like the red dot. Both optics are covered by the SIG Sauer Infinite Guarantee. Would you use a red dot and magnifier combo that switches reticles automatically, or do you prefer a fixed reticle? If this post has you ready to hit the range, head over to gunranges.com - a free directory to help you find shooting ranges near you, wherever you are in the United States.
