‘It’s done’ – Carrick draws line under Martinez outburst at Wilcox

Michael Carrick says that Man Utd have moved on from the fallout of Lisandro Martinez’s scathing comments about the work of Director of Football Jason Wilcox. The centre-back took aim at Wilcox following Tuesday night’s 2-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League for failing to adequately bolster the squad in the summer transfer window. Martine issued an apology for his remarks after meeting with the club’s hierarchy, including Wilcox and CEO Omar Berrada, and Carrick. “Everyone knows that I am a passionate person and that I live football with great intensity,” he said in a statement on Thursday evening. “The frustration of the defeat led me to express how I felt at a time and place that perhaps were not the right ones, and for that I want to apologise.”Carrick draws line under Martinez outburst at WilcoxSpeaking ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash with Leeds United at Elland Road, Carrick insisted the matter has been dealt with and the whole squad has “moved on”. “It’s done really,” he said in his pre-match press conference on Friday afternoon. “We’ve moved on from that. It was one of those things. As a group we’ve moved on. It’s really not a drama for the group. The squad have trained really well and they are in good spirits.“It was pretty simple. We understood the situation. Licha understood he made a mistake. We have a really good felling from the club. Results wise it hasn’t gone our way, but the spirit and togetherness. We can see in the group we want to do something with this situation. “We’ve moved on. Genuinely. There is a freshness about the group. He is available.”Martinez did not apologise directly to Wilcox in his statement, but Carrick insisted his acknowledgement of wrongdoing was satisfactory. “He’s released his statement and realised he made a mistake. That’s enough for us to move on with.“From our point of view, the acknowledgement of what’s been done is enough to move on.“I understand the emotion. We ask for passion. There’s a way in doing that and that’s been acknowledged. But we need to carry that passion in the right way.”Asked if Wilcox should talk more in public, Carrick responded: “That’s not for me to say. I have no problem sitting here and leading the football club. I am happy to sit here and answer the questions.”Read – The Premier League clubs with the biggest net spend in summer 2026See Also – Five of the best Premier League away kits in 2026/27Follow the Football Faithful on Social Media:Facebook | Instagram | Twitter | YouTube | TikTokThe post ‘It’s done’ – Carrick draws line under Martinez outburst at Wilcox appeared first on The Football Faithful.
