Eredur – Key Art Commission Brief Oct 16, 2026 · u/Jonas We are commissioning one painted key art for Eredur – The Long Way Home, a PC tower defence game for Steam. We handle the logo and the Steam crops ourselves, so the commission is the painting only. About the project • The game: a story-driven tower defence game in the spirit of GemCraft. A small band leads refugees across a desert, away from a demon army pouring out of a black Pyramid, towards a harbour and the ships that can take them home. 56 levels across six chapters. • The world: the game is the companion to a fantasy novel by the same author. Its subtitle, The “true” story behind the Second Demon Wars, ties the two together. • Publisher: Bromma Tjänster AB, Sweden. A one-person studio. • What the art is for: the Steam store page and library, the game's title screen, the press kit and trailer, and possibly the cover of the novel (see Rights). • When: the Steam page goes live as soon as the art is ready. The game is planned for Steam Next Fest in February 2027 and release shortly after. Deliverables 1. One key art painting, at least 4000 px wide, delivered as a layered file (PSD or similar) plus a full-size PNG. It is also used as the game's title screen. 2. No logo work. We place our existing logo (see the title screen under References). Just leave space for it. 3. No crops. We cut the Steam formats below from your layered file. Your composition must work in all of them. Asset Size (px) Logo Header capsule 920 × 430 Yes Small capsule 462 × 174 Yes Main capsule 1232 × 706 Yes Vertical capsule 748 × 896 Yes Library capsule 600 × 900 Yes Library hero 3840 × 1240 No Library logo 1280 wide, transparent Logo only Sizes are Steamworks' current requirements as of October 2026. They range from very wide (3840 × 1240) to tall (600 × 900), which is why the figures belong near the centre. The scene Flight and hope in the middle of ruin: a small band turns back to face a dark tide, while far away the harbour shimmers like a promise. Evening light, the last sun falling from the left. Foreground (lower third) • Venavion with his bow Balnarin, standing on a raised dune or rock, looking back towards the threat. • Princess Ilyriana beside him, looking ahead towards the harbour. • Behind them the small, weary band as silhouettes against the evening light, recognisable only by their outlines. They are few, and it should show. Middle ground • A winding gravel road through the desert, with a lone crenellated stone tower. • A few cacti and bones half buried in the sand. Background, left: the threat • The Pyramid: vast, black against the sky, a faint red glow at its peak, a crack above the gate. Only one pyramid. • At its foot a dark mass of enemies, suggested rather than drawn one by one: banners, torches and glowing eyes. • The enemy's master is never shown. Only the darkness beneath the Pyramid, and glowing eyes in the crack. Background, right (the north): the hope • A harbour on the horizon, shimmering like a mirage in the heat. • Pale sails and a burning lighthouse, small and far away. Characters Only Venavion and Ilyriana are painted in detail. The rest of the band are silhouettes, so their outlines must tell who they are. Character Shown as Must show Venavion In detail: the hero, a tall elf His bow Balnarin: gold inlay and a single sapphire in the upper limb Ilyriana In detail: an elf princess Looking towards the harbour, determined, not afraid Milan Silhouette: a mercenary The outline of a spear Alfaria Silhouette: an archer A bow longer than she is tall Costas Silhouette: a merchant A pack or bundle, not a fighter Illona Silhouette: an aristocrat A long cloak or gown A Duergar Silhouette: a stout dwarf Short and broad, a small cannon on his back Paolo Silhouette: a squire Buried under far too much of the others' gear Character art from the game will be attached for Venavion and Ilyriana; their faces and costumes may be refined, but both should stay recognisable. Style, mood and colours Painterly dark fantasy with a hint of ink linework, like an illuminated page from a monk's chronicle of the war. It should sit close to the game's own dark, hand-painted look, but richer and more detailed. We choose artists whose portfolio already shows this style and will not ask anyone to change theirs. • Mood: flight and hope in the middle of ruin. Weary, not heroic posing. • Light: evening, the last sun from the left, the same light direction as in the game. • The side of hope (right): warm gold, sand, amber. • The side of the threat (left): cold violet, black, glowing red. • The diagonal between the two halves is the story of the picture. Tone: the game tells its story with dry, dark humour; the quotation marks in the subtitle, the “true” story, are a wink. The key art itself stays serious and atmospheric. One small wry detail is welcome if it fits naturally, such as the squire's silhouette buried under far too much luggage. No jokes in the main figures or the threat. Technical requirements • Leave clear space in the upper centre for the logo. • Keep Venavion and Ilyriana near the centre, away from the edges, so the picture crops from wide to tall. • No text or lettering in the painting itself. • Keep at least the figures, the Pyramid and the sky on separate layers. • sRGB colour. Rights, credit and AI policy • Use: full commercial rights for the game, its store pages, marketing, press, trailers, merchandise and the cover of the companion novel, worldwide and without time limit. • Exclusivity: exclusive to Bromma Tjänster AB. You may show the work in your portfolio once the Steam page is public. • Credit: your name in the game's credits and on the press kit page, with a link to your portfolio. • AI policy: made by hand, without generative AI at any stage. Sketches and work-in-progress files are part of the delivery. Neither party may submit the art to AI training. • A short written agreement covering the above is signed before work starts. Optional: more art for a supporter pack We plan a Supporter Pack on Steam: a paid add-on with the game's original soundtrack by our composer, a digital artbook, wallpapers and similar extras. If you would like to make the art for it, we offer a share of its sales instead of a fixed fee. The sales are shared between the artist, the composer and the studio. • What it could include: the sketches and work-in-progress of the key art, portraits of the band members shown as silhouettes in the key art, and a few scenes from the journey. The pieces are agreed one by one. • Your share: 30 % of our net receipts from the Supporter Pack during its first twelve months on sale (the composer has a separate share): what Steam pays out after its fee, VAT and refunds. • Paid: quarterly, with a sales report from Steamworks, for those twelve months. Most of a game's sales come in its first year, so a clear twelve-month share keeps the accounting simple for both of us; the rights to the art continue after that. • Rights and credit: as for the key art, with your name in the game's credits, on the pack's store page and in the artbook. • No obligation: say in your bid whether you are interested. It does not affect how we judge your bid for the key art, and the terms are agreed separately. Timeline and how to bid We aim for the final painting within about 3 weeks of the go-ahead. 1. Sketch: 1–2 rough compositions. We choose one. 2. Colour comp: the chosen sketch in colour, checked against the logo space and crops. 3. Final painting. Each stage includes one round of revisions. Payment: When Share At the go-ahead (covers the sketch) 25 % When we approve the sketch 25 % On delivery of the final painting 50 % Stopping after the sketch: after the sketch, either party may end the commission and nothing more is owed by either side. • If we end it: you keep the first 25 % as payment for your time, and the sketch and all rights to it stay with you. • If you end it: the first 25 % has paid for the sketch, so the sketch and all rights to it pass to us, and we may have it finished by another artist. You may still show it in your portfolio. If you stop earlier or later: if you end the commission before delivering the sketch, the 25 % is refunded. If you end it after we have approved the sketch, all work delivered so far and its rights pass to us, and any payment for stages not delivered is refunded. Once we approve the sketch, we both commit to finishing the painting. Budget: USD 200–400 in total, all rights above included. The scope is kept small to fit it: two detailed figures, silhouettes, and a simple background. Your bid should include: • Links to your portfolio, ideally with painted fantasy illustrations or book covers • Your price within the budget • Your timeline and earliest start date • Anything in this brief you would simplify or need to know more about Send your bid to: jonas@veroveli.com. Bids close on Friday 30 October 2026. We choose within two days and want to start at once. References These in-game screenshots (1920 × 1080) show the game's current look. The key art should feel like the same world, painted richer and darker. Full-size files are sent with the brief. Title screen. The current logo over the world map.
