Bijan Robinson’s hold-in with the Atlanta Falcons has ended. The two-time Pro Bowl running back and the Falcons have reached an agreement on a three-year extension worth up to $75 million that makes him the highest-paid running back in NFL history. Robinson has penned an extension which makes him the highest-paid RB in NFL historyGettyAs per terms of the agreement laid out by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Robinson will receive $51 million guaranteed, of which $37 million of that will come at signing. With an annual average salary of $22.25 million, Robinson has now reset the running back market. He now topples Saquon Barkley ($20.6 million) and Christian McCaffrey ($19 million) as the highest-paid player at his position. In the 2025 NFL season, the 24-year-old led the league with 2,298 all-purpose yards last year. Since he entered the league as the eighth overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, no player has more than his 5,648 all-purpose yards, while only Barkley and Baltimore Ravens star Derrick Henry have more than Robinson’s 3,910 rushing yards in that same time frame.It was always clear that Robinson wanted to re-sign with the Falcons, it was just a matter of when, and for what price. “I’m really excited to help lead this team and the offense to great heights,” Robinson said during the Falcons’ minicamp in mid-June.For new Falcons head coach Kevin Stefanski, having Robinson on his team was of utmost priority. “I’ve been around some good running backs, but obviously you know how I feel about Bijan,” he said. “I would start with just the pro he is. I appreciate how he goes about his business in the meeting room, how he goes about his business on the grass. “The physical skill set is obvious off of the tape. Gibbs could use Robinson’s deal to leverage his own extensionWhile he has reset the running back market, he may not be the highest average annual earner for long. This comes as Jahmyr Gibbs is still holding in on an extension of his own, as he awaits a proposal from the Detroit Lions that he is willing to accept. The electric running back, whose speed saw him earn the nickname of ‘Sonic’, led the Lions’ rushing attack last season with 1,223 yards and 13 touchdowns. The three-time Pro Bowler also had a career-high 616 receiving yards and five touchdowns from 77 receptions, making him one of the best dual-threat offensive players in the league. As of Tuesday, though, Gibbs is still holding-in for a new deal. “What I’m … aiming towards? Ah, I don’t know,” Gibbs said to reporters on Monday about his contract expectations, as he also added that “only time will tell” when he will make his return to the field for training camp. Now that Robinson has put ink to paper on his extension, Gibbs could use that as leverage to get his own deal across the line. It seems only a matter of time before the market is perhaps reset once again.
