The Malta Ranger Unit has reported a commercial party vessel after it was allegedly playing excessively loud music near a protected marine area off Selmun. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Lovin Malta (@lovinmalta)According to the Rangers, the vessel entered a nearby bay late yesterday evening with music so loud it could be heard from beyond St Paul’s Island, where a protected breeding area for the Yelkouan Shearwater (Garnija) is located.While the boat was reportedly outside the protected zone itself, the Rangers pointed to Notice to Mariners 115 of 2025, which states that commercial vessels must not operate at noise levels that cause a nuisance.After the incident was reported, Transport Malta’s control room contacted the vessel, which then left the area shortly afterwards.The Rangers thanked Transport Malta for its swift response but renewed calls for greater maritime enforcement during late evenings, arguing that the lack of patrols is allowing offenders to act with impunity.“We need officers out at sea issuing on-the-spot fines to offenders,” the organisation said, warning that maritime regulations risk becoming “words on paper only” without proper enforcement.Should party boats face tougher penalties for excessive noise?Video: Malta Rangers Unit•
