Mauricio Pochettino has agreed to a new contract that keeps him as head coach of the United States Men’s National Team through 2030.The Argentine took the job in September 2024, and focused primarily on preparing the USMNT for 2026 World Cup, hosted on home soil.Pochettino has committed his future to the USMNT through 2030GettyUnder Pochettino’s guidance, the US reached the last-16 of the tournament, before losing to European heavyweights Belgium.His initial two-year deal – funded in part by investment companies and commercial partners – was due to expire after the World Cup, and the manner of a 4-1 defeat to Belgium placed huge questions over the 54-year-old staying on.Those doubts were raised even further when former USMNT defender Steve Cherundolo was announced the head US head coach for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.However, the US Soccer Federation has confirmed Pochettino will be staying on, and his extension has been described as a moment that ‘launches a new chapter in the project’. Pochettino and his coaching staff will continue the growth of the senior USMNT, and also have a greater impact on the overall US Soccer ecosystem.“Mauricio and his staff believe in the future of soccer in the United States and our new project allows us to build on progress of the USMNT and the momentum of US Soccer,” CEO and Secretary General JT Batson said.“We know we have a lot of work to do to achieve our clear ambitions, including competing to win Men’s World Cups and having soccer become the most played sport in every community.“I couldn’t be more excited that Mauricio and team are committed to partnering with all of us to do the hard work to bring those ambitions to life.”Pochettino’s focus will now shift to the next COPA America in 2028, and the World Cup in 2030 that will take place in Spain, Portugal and Morocco. He had previously been linked with a return to Premier League management, following this summer’s World Cup.
