A 27-year-old Indian man has been remanded in custody after pleading not guilty to charges linked to the vandalism of a parked car in Swieqi.Rohit Uniyal, who lives in Swieqi, appeared in court charged with damaging an Audi parked in Triq il-Keffa during the early hours of 1st August.He also pleaded not guilty to charges of behaving indecently in public, being drunk and incapable of taking care of himself, and breaching the peace.The case stems from an incident that gained widespread attention after Swieqi Deputy Mayor Jordan Galea Pace shared CCTV footage showing three men walking through the locality. The footage appeared to show one of them repeatedly striking a parked vehicle before breaking its side mirror.Police reportedly identified the alleged offender using CCTV footage before arresting him at his residence.The defence requested bail, arguing that Uniyal has lived in Malta for several years, has no previous criminal record and is in steady employment.However, the prosecution opposed the request, arguing that the accused could potentially approach the alleged victims, who live in the same locality.Magistrate Nadia Helena Vella denied the bail request and remanded Uniyal in custody, while ordering that the victims’ testimony be heard at the earliest opportunity.•
