Antoine Semenyo says Enzo Maresca has wasted little time in outlining his tactical vision at Manchester City, with the winger relishing the freedom to attack defenders in one-on-one situations. The Ghana international was one of City’s standout performers during Saturday’s pre-season shootout defeat with Inter Milan in Hong Kong, where his direct running caused constant problems for the Serie A side. Speaking to The Athletic, Semenyo revealed those displays are exactly what Maresca has demanded since taking charge.“From day one, he’s got his ideas to us,” Semenyo said.“I’ve had individual meetings with him on how he wants to set up, how he wants to play, his wide men, just overall as a team. It’s been good.“His ideas are great, quite similar to Pep. If you watched the game against Inter, you would have seen a couple of his ideas play out.”Maresca has already made it clear he wants his wingers to stay wide and attack defenders directly, a style that suits Semenyo’s strengths.“When we played Chelsea when Maresca was there, his wide men were always high and wide and quite free,” he said.Semenyo excited by Maresca’s attacking vision at City“That was one of the things that excited me the most when he was appointed. I get to have one-v-one situations most of the game, and I’m looking forward to it.”The 26-year-old also highlighted one of the biggest differences between Maresca’s approach and that of former manager Pep Guardiola.“In some games Pep wanted me wide, some games he wanted me inside a little bit more, depending on our opposition,” he explained.“Enzo is just about being out wide and when you get the ball, create opportunities. It’s exciting.”Semenyo also credited Guardiola for helping him develop after his arrival at the Etihad Stadium, revealing the Spaniard encouraged him to remain patient rather than forcing attacking situations.“He always said to me, ‘We have the ball a lot, just relax, there’ll be an opening… once you beat the defender, you’ve got a chance to score.’ We worked a lot on patience and it’s definitely helped.”After an encouraging first outing under Maresca, Semenyo believes City are already beginning to adapt to the new manager’s philosophy as preparations continue for the new Premier League campaign.Follow the Football Faithful on Social Media:Facebook | Instagram | Twitter | YouTube | TikTokThe post Semenyo excited by Maresca’s attacking vision at City appeared first on The Football Faithful.
