Overwatch’s next hero is a mech pilot and teammate of existing hero D.Va, Blizzard Entertainment teased today. The new hero known as D.Mon has appeared in the lore a couple times before (most notably in the “Shooting Star” animated short and Overwatch: New Blood comic), but the basic gist is that she’s a South Korean hero and another member of the MEKA Squad, leading many to believe she will be a tank. Screenshot by Destructoid In the lore, MEKA stands for Mobile Exo-Force of the Korean Army, and D.Mon and D.Va’s claim to fame (other than being esports stars) is that they are heroes in their country who helped defend it from giant Null Sector Omnics known as Gwishin. In the teaser video below, she can be seen doing battle with Wrecking Ball in the anime-style trailer, presumably with a narrative reason to bring her into the fold. D.Mon is the codename for the mech pilot Yuna Lee, and she pilots the massive red mech codenamed Beast, teased again in the image above. Little else is known about her thus far, but concept art suggests the mech may wield some sort of hard-light melee weapon and a shield. Earlier this summer, Overwatch’s Busan map hinted at D.Mon’s arrival with some in-game lore that her mech, Beast, had been taken away for repairs. Well, those repairs appear to be finished, as she looks set to join the roster in the game’s new season and her full reveal is coming this Thursday, Aug. 6. Personally, I’m just stoked to have another tank to play as, assuming she is one…and as a giant mech, I’d be shocked if she wasn’t. As a tank main, I will always be looking to try out new strategies and synergies. But there’s also several map reworks to look forward to, as Blizzard revealed upcoming changes to Eichenwalde, Paraiso, and the aforementioned Busan during an esports event this weekend.
