Australia has confirmed its first mass mortality event from H5 bird flu. This outbreak occurred in a large group of native seabirds in South Australia. Laboratory testing confirmed the presence of the deadly virus in affected birds near Cape Jaffa. This development is concerning as more wildlife is expected to be affected. Australia has now recorded seventy-four cases of the virus since June.
