Prime Minister Robert Abela has pledged to continue stepping up efforts to address the ongoing issues affecting Swieqi after meeting with members of the local council and residents.During the meeting, Swieqi Mayor Noel Muscat said that around 90% of the locality’s problems stem from short-let properties, while Deputy Mayor Jordan Galea Pace argued that many young tourists choose Airbnbs because they believe they have greater freedom to party and behave disruptively.Responding to the concerns, Abela said that while the government remains committed to protecting investment, this should never come at the expense of residents’ quality of life.He stressed the need to strike a balance between supporting the tourism and property sectors while ensuring communities remain safe and liveable.
