Rumors are swirling about a brand-new Star Wars land, thought to be announced at this year’s D23.Currently, Disney theme parks have two Star Wars-themed lands, with Galaxy’s Edge found at both Disneyland Park and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Disney also has several mini areas inspired by the franchise, with Star Tours – The Adventures Continue located at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Disneyland, Tokyo Disneyland, and Disneyland Paris.Credit: DisneyBoth Hong Kong Disneyland and Disneyland Paris are also home to Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain.This week, whispers have suggested that Disney is looking to expand its Star Wars presence at the latter by transforming Discoveryland – or at least part of it – into a brand-new Star Wars land.Rumored Details for New ‘Star Wars’ Land at Disneyland ParisWhile nothing is confirmed just yet, there are some similarities between the various online rumors.Multiple sources suggest that Disney is looking to scrap Autopia. The ride – which has already been removed from Hong Kong Disneyland and Tokyo Disneyland, and faces either an overhaul or permanent closure at Disneyland Park – takes up precious real estate.Credit: DisneyAutopia poses its own issues. The attraction has traditionally relied on sponsorship, which may make securing a replacement partner challenging, while converting its fleet to electric power would require significant investment. Its popularity also drops sharply during poor weather, further complicating its long-term value.In its place, the top theory is Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, a large-scale trackless dark ride that places guests inside a battle between the Resistance and the First Order, combining multiple ride systems, elaborate sets, and live cast member interactions.It’s also been suggested that Disney will retheme Les Mystères du Nautilus, a walkthrough attraction that allows guests to explore Captain Nemo’s submarine from 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Open since 1994, it features several recreated rooms and an encounter with a giant squid.If this is true, the decision is sure to prove divisive. Les Mystères du Nautilus is closely tied to Discoveryland’s Jules Verne-inspired identity, and replacing its distinctive 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea setting would remove another piece of the land’s original vision.Credit: DisneySpeaking of which, it’s thought that Disney will announce a massive overhaul of what is currently Star Wars: Hyperspace Mountain. Notably, the most prominent rumor suggests that this will restore its original Jules Verne-esque theming. The first iteration of the park’s indoor roller coaster, known as De la Terre à la Lune, was based on the novel From the Earth to the Moon.For multiple years, rumors have pointed to a Mandalorian and Grogu coaster in a Star Wars area behind Space Mountain. The film – which saw Pedro Pascal reprise the title role from the Disney+ series – only earned $345 million worldwide, so there is a chance that its modest performance could have changed Disney’s plans.Other elements are reportedly still under consideration. Orbitron could be rethemed, while a Paris version of Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run may be built in the backstage area behind Discoveryland, adding another major Star Wars attraction alongside the rumored Mandalorian coaster.Credit: DisneyIt’s unclear whether Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run would feature the same Mandalorian updates recently introduced at Disneyland Park and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Theoretically, Walt Disney Imagineering could come up with a totally new concept for the attraction.The future of Discoveryland Theatre, currently home to Mickey’s PhilharMagic, is apparently less settled. Disney is allegedly still considering whether to retain, retheme, or replace the venue, meaning the final shape of the proposed land may not yet be decided.If Disney does add Galaxy’s Edge to Paris, it’s also unclear whether it would retain the name Galaxy’s Edge and the fictional setting of Black Spire Outpost on Batuu or exist more as a subsection of Discoveryland – similar to Stark Expo in Tomorrowland at Hong Kong Disneyland.If it’s Galaxy’s Edge, there’s the question of the land’s timeline. Disneyland Resort delighted fans by abandoning its previously strict sequel-era storytelling in April 2026, adding Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, and Han Solo alongside favorite characters from newer stories – including Rey – potentially giving Paris more freedom to mix eras.A new land would give Disney the chance to address even more of the issues fans identified with the original Galaxy’s Edge. Fans could see even more familiar faces and potentially visit planets actually seen in theaters, such as Tatooine, Coruscant, or Jakku.Paris Previously Scrapped a ‘Star Wars’ LandThis isn’t the first time Disneyland Paris has been linked to Galaxy’s Edge. In February 2018, Disney announced a €2 billion expansion of Walt Disney Studios Park – now known as Disney Adventure World – featuring new areas based on Marvel, Frozen, and Star Wars around a central lake (which we now know as Adventure Bay).Credit: DisneyDisney never confirmed the proposed land’s attractions or formally called it Galaxy’s Edge. However, references to Star Wars gradually disappeared from later concept art and expansion updates, with the company never issuing a separate cancellation announcement.In August 2024, Disney instead confirmed a Lion King (1994) land featuring shops, dining, character encounters, and a new attraction beneath Pride Rock. Its announcement effectively ended the original Star Wars plans for what is now Disney Adventure World.For now, Disney’s third Galaxy’s Edge remains unconfirmed.
