A comedian says United Airlines employees damaged her laptop, headphones, wallet, vape and notebook after a staff member moved her backpack without waking her up first. She posted a tearful video from the airport describing what happened, and it has since gone viral. The woman, who goes by Tatum on TikTok (@cactustate), has 4.4 million followers on the platform and describes herself as a comedian. Her video about the incident has been viewed 2.2 million times and has more than 307,400 likes and over 4,700 comments. In the video, Tatum said she fell asleep in row 8A of the plane with her backpack between her legs, since there were no seats in front of her. She said a staff member picked up her bag and placed it in the overhead bin without waking her up or removing a drink from the bag’s side pocket first. Passenger says airline offered no help after the spill “I’m sitting in the airport so f–king angry that tears are coming out of my eyes because United has me so f–ked up, dude,” Tatum said in the video. She added that she understood the bag was supposed to be in the overhead bin, and said she would have moved it herself if someone had asked her to. @cactustate united can kiss my whole a$$ @United Airlines ♬ original sound – Tatum My Dude Tatum said the drink spilled inside the bag and soaked her laptop, headphones, wallet and vape. She held up a notebook with visible stains on its pages and said it was her “joke book,” which contained her written material. “It’s fine, I can get another one,” she said, before adding that the notebook was not just a replaceable item to her. She said United’s response to the damage was dismissive. Describing the airline’s reaction, she said, “United was like, ‘D–n b—h, my bad, sorry, there’s nothing I can do, there’s nothing I can do.'” She also said staff would not give her a plastic bag for her wet backpack. Tatum closed the video with a direct message to the airline. “United, you, you got a special place in hell for ruining my joke book, for ruining my joke,” she said. “I don’t even care about my computer. You f–ked up my joke book.” This is not the first time United Airlines has faced customer outrage over in-flight incidents, such as when a Cincinnati man’s flight started with random drips of mystery liquid and ended with him completely soaked. In a follow-up TikTok video, Tatum told her followers that United had reached out to her. “They called, they offered to replace what they can,” she said. “Obviously they can’t replace my notebook. Is what it is, okay? Lesson learned.” She thanked her followers for their support in the comments section and asked them to stop directing anger at the airline on her behalf, though she said they could continue if they had separate complaints. “If you got other beef with them, keep going, but on my behalf, we’re good, okay?” she said. @cactustate thanks guys you are such nice intimidating people ♬ original sound – Tatum My Dude Tatum also said she learned from the experience. “I’m gonna start traveling with my notebook in a Ziploc bag,” she said. She added that she would no longer put drinks in the side pocket of a backpack. United Airlines’ troubles go beyond damaged luggage, as a Chicago woman was reportedly left on the tarmac for five hours. Commenters on the original video reacted with a mix of support and criticism. One person wrote, “It does matter. It is that serious. You’re not being dramatic. You’re feeling ARE valid. Im so sorry.” Another wrote, “They need to pay for it. File a claim.” A commenter who identified as a flight attendant wrote, “As a flight attendant I promise this is NOT OKAY and grabbing other people’s bags without permission is literally against our job description. So sorry this happened to you!” Some commenters placed blame on Tatum instead. One wrote, “This is a You problem!” Another said, “just admit your fault you didn’t follow the rules.”
