This August, INDAWRU FILM screenings come to Xgħajra for the first time, marking the fifth REGIONAL MOSAIC event in the Port Region of Culture programme. From the 4th to the 6th of August, the Xgħajra Greek Theatre will be transformed into an open-air cinema, celebrating the richness and diversity of Maltese filmmaking.Running each evening from 8PM to 11PM, the festival presents a carefully curated programme of feature films and short films, offering audiences the opportunity to experience some of Malta’s most compelling cinematic works in a unique outdoor setting with English subtitles. Admission is free and no registration is required.The programme includes acclaimed feature films Dear Dom, Limestone Cowboy and Simshar, alongside a selection of curated and submitted short films including In Between, Gwerra Siekta, Angelina or Toil of Hands and Sħab (To My Little Turtle). Together, the films explore themes of identity, family, memory, resilience, migration and the human experience, reflecting the breadth of contemporary Maltese cinema.Curated by Francesca Zammit, INDAWRU FILM is founded on the idea of bringing Maltese cinema into the heart of the Port Region’s localities. Presented as part of Regional Mosaic – supported by the Port Regional Council, the Local Government Division and the Ministry for Local Government and Public Works – the programme continues to activate public spaces by transforming them into vibrant cultural meeting points.
