While priority was given to candidates from Uganda’s oil and gas region, the programme also attracted participants from other parts of the country, reflecting the growing national demand for specialized fiber optic skills that support Uganda’s expanding Energy, telecommunications networks, major infrastructure developments and the country’s emerging oil and gas industry.Through a combination of classroom instruction and intensive hands-on practical training, participants developed foundational competencies in fiber optic installation, fusion splicing, testing, troubleshooting and network maintenance while preparing for the internationally recognized Certified Fiber Optics Technician (CFOT) certification.The initiative supports Uganda’s National Content objectives by equipping Ugandans with globally recognized technical competencies that enhance employability and strengthen local participation in strategic infrastructure and industrial projects.“At TotalEnergies, together with our contractors, we are committed to ensuring Ugandans participate meaningfully in the development of the country’s oil and gas industry—creating employment opportunities for qualified individuals and opening doors for local businesses.
